Puriri Bay campsite and access road is closed until further notice due to storm damage.

Urupukapuka Bay Campsite has four camping zones. Cattleyard zone is closed due to a slip Oyster Catcher, NZ Dotterel and Kukupa zones are still bookable. View Urupukapuka Bay Campsite map (PDF, 120K).

Motukawanui Hut is closed. It needs to be assessed before it can be reopened.

Due to heavy machinery operating on Pirau Ridge Track, the Te Araroa Trail in Puketī-Omahuta Forest is closed from 25 June to 8 July 2026. All connecting tracks are closed. Te Araroa Trail walkers are to use alternative routes via Mokau Ridge Road or State Highway 1. Note: Blackbridge Camp and Puketī Recreation Area Campsite remain open.

Sections of Te Paki Coastal Track are closed due to storm damage: Kapowairua (Spirits Bay) to Pandora Pandora to Tapotupotu Bay Tapotupotu to Cape Reinga/Te Rerenga Waiura The open section of the Te Paki Coastal Track starts at Cape Reinga and ends at Te Paki Stream. Pandora campsite is closed. Tapotupotu, Kapowairua (Spirits Bay) and Twilight campsites are open. This is a long term alert. 

Sunset Bay and Urupukapuka Bay campsites are closed for maintenance.

Pandora Track and Pandora Campsite are closed due to storm damage.  This is a long term alert. 

Waikahoa Bay Campsite is closed until Labour weekend due to storm damage. 

In 2024 feral dogs were seen near the Te Paki Coastal Track around Twilight Beach and Scott’s Point including 90 Mile Beach. As an ongoing precaution our advice is: do not walk the area alone do not approach any dogs do not leave food or scraps that may attract scavenging by dogs Report any sightings to Far North District Council dog control 0800 920 029 if safe to do so. GPS coordinates and photos are helpful.
