Aerial spraying of wilding conifer weeds in Mt Richmond Forest Park

An aerial spraying operation targeting wilding conifers in Mt Richmond Forest Park will take place over several days from 15 March to 15 May 2026. A helicopter will be spot-spraying herbicide  on the eastern faces beneath Gibbs Spur (Ben Nevis Track). The area is the faces opposite the Wairoa Gorge MTB Park. Map showing location of spraying in grey (JPG, 462K) Do not enter this area while a helicopter is operating. Signage will be in place. The contractors will have marshals at both ends of the Ben Nevis Track to limit access during the brief times the helicopter needs to work close to the track.
