Goat control in Whanganui National Park
Goat control teams will be working in the Te Mata Ridge in the Mangapurua/Kaiwhakauka areas in Whanganui National Park from 1 April to 31 May 2026. Contract Hunters will also be working on the site between the Whanganui River and the Heao Stream – to the Tangarakau River in the south to the top of the Tangarakau Conservation Area in the north. Most of the work is remote but there will be occasions where visitors may encounter goat control contractors. Stick to tracks (contractors have a 100 m hunting restriction from the tracks), and wear hi vis - bright clothing/hunting-wear. Hunters - identify your target and observe all other Arms Code rules.
