Ungulate control for part of Tongariro National Park
An aerial ungulate control operation is planned for part of Tongariro National Park starting Monday 31 August, depending on the weather. The operation includes the 2025 Tongariro fire ground and surrounding area. See area map (PDF, 2,933K) Visitors to the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, Soda Springs Track, Mangatepopo Hut, and nearby walks in Whakapapa Village may experience some helicopter noise while the operation takes place. This operation is part of the Maunga Ora project.
